Lawrence (Larry) M. Coyle, 82, of Lansdale, Pa.
Lawrence (Larry) M. Coyle, 82, of Lansdale, Pa., formerly of Kingston, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017.
He was born Jan. 7, 1935, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late John G. and Rose Glackin Coyle.
He was a graduate of Most Holy Trinity High School, St. Francis College, and Adelphi University, where he completed his master’s degree in social work and became a licensed master social worker.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Constitution. Larry was a New York City police officer for 23 years, was an alcoholism counselor for eight of those years and became the clinical director of the NYPD Counseling Service for the last two years. He became a consultant to various rehabilitation centers and Employee Assistance Programs.
He married his second wife, Rachel Daniels, and lived in Kingston, N.Y. He was a private practitionerpsychotherapist, specializing in chemical dependency and EAP programs, in Saugerties, N.Y. He was a counselor, consultant, and Director of Detox and EAP Services at Kingston Hospital. He worked as a toll collector for the NYS Bridge Authority at the KingstonRhinebeck Bridge.
Larry loved to take trips to Atlantic City to play poker and enjoyed smoking his cigars.
Larry is survived by his two sons, John (Adina) Coyle and William (Michele) Coyle; two daughters, Eileen (Stanley) Munson and Margaret (Eric) Goff; two grandchildren, Chelsea (Alex) Alford and Nick Munson; two sisters, Rosemary Stoll and Mimi (Jack) Nawrath; one brother, Thomas (Mary) Coyle; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry is also survived by three stepdaughters, Marjorie (Harry) Block, Donna (Thomas) Peterson, Mary Ellen “Gidget” (Jeffrey) Anagnos; three stepsons, William Fallows, Henry (Carla) Daniels, and Robert Daniels; 24 stepgrandchildren and 18 stepgreat-granchildren.
Larry was predeceased by his loving wife, Rachel; his sister, Bernadette Hartnett; and his brothers, John, Joseph, Anthony, and Raymond Coyle; and two step-great-granddaughters, Karleigh Faith and Alexa Remick.
A memorial service will be held at noon Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at SeamonWilsey Funeral Home Inc., at the corner of John and Lafayette streets, in Saugerties, N.Y. Interment will follow at St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery, Saugerties, N.Y., where he will be laid to rest beside his wife, Rachel. Friends may call Monday from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
