••• Nine area residents attending the University at Albany — Jose Alarcon, Kaina Gil and Goldie Williams, all of Saugerties; Ethan Watkins-Berg of Highland, Ann Khan of New Paltz, Sean Klein of Boiceville, Lucas Davison and Chelsea Thompson, both of Wallkill; and Diego Marotta of Rhinebeck — are participating in the university’s Living-Learning Communities for the 2017-18academic year.
In the communities, students live on the same residence hall, take some classes together, build a strong relationship with their Living-Learning Communities lead professor, and study and participate in co-curricular activities around the theme or intended major of the community.
The students are engaged in their studies inside and outside of their classrooms.
••• Four area residents attending the State University of New York at Oswego — Kenan N. Bernard of Saugerties, Austin J. Reda of High Falls, Moshe H. KatzinNystrom of New Paltz and Lillian M. Pavord of Rhinebeck — were awarded presidential scholarships.
The scholarships are $20,000 over four years — $5,000 a year — for students residing on campus. Off-campus presidential scholarships are $2,500a year.
Bernard is majoring in adolescence education. Reda is majoring in graphic design. KatzinNystrom is majoring in software engineering. Pavord is majoring in biology.
Two area residents attending SUNY Oswego — Lauren Scott of Wallkill and Bradley T. Holen of Rhinebeck — were awarded merit scholarships.
The awards are $3,000 over four years.
Scott is majoring in chemistry. Holen has not yet declared a major.
