TerBush shines for Kingston at OCIAAs
Freshman places 17th to set pace for Tigers
Hailie TerBush and the Kingston girls turned in a spectacular performance at the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association cross country championships Friday.
TerBush, a freshman, finished 17th overall, running a 19:37.45 on the three-mile Bear Mountain State Park course. She became the first Tiger girl to run a sub-20-minute time on the course and to medal in 14 years. Alexandra Brown was the last to do that in 2003.
TerBush is only the sixth sub20 Tiger, joining, Brown, Vining, Melissa Stellato and Carol Edelstein.
The girls posted their best team finish in 15 years by taking fifth, scoring 172 points. Monroe-Woodbury easily won the title with 30 points.
Joining TerBush were Clara Sensini (33rd, 20:42.38), Morgan Juric (34th, 20:44.95), Thea Kovaleski (42nd, 21:23.60), Maggie Noe (49th, 21:39.01), Marine Nimblette (70th, 22:41.81) and Amelia Loughlin (72nd, 22:47.41).
Mount Academy was seventh with 156 points and Kingston ninth with 235 in the boys race.
Senior Robert Becker medaled, placing 22nd with a 16:43.97. He was followed by fellow Tigers Bradley Hack (33rd, 16:57.07), Bailey Ryan (44th, 17:10.01), Colin Keck (56th, 17:20.62), Eddy Zajac (79th, 17:59.41), Giovanni Melchione (82nd, 18:04.51) and Cameron Fairley (108th, 19:09.39).
Sophomore Travis Meier was 12th in 16:15.06 to lead Mount Academy. Also competing for the Eagles were Edwin Moody (29th, 16:50.84), Adam King (33rd, 16:52.87), Tristan Moody (36th, 16:589.53), Eric Zumpe (46th, 17:11.93), Darren Baird (54th, 17:18.93) and Nate Kurtz (59th, 17:21.79).
The OCIAA runners test themselves again at Bear Mountain next Friday in the Section 9 championships.
