Rondout Valley, Rhinebeck earn berths in Section 9 semifinals

KINGSTON, N.Y. » Rondout Valley and Rhinebeck High punched their tickets to the Section 9 volleyball semifinals on Monday.

The Ganders advanced in Class B with a 25-17, 1825, 27-25, 25-12 victory over Marlboro, while the Hawks advanced in Class C by sweeping Chester, 25-17, 2515, 25-17.

Class B

Rondout 3, Marlboro 1

At Kyserike, Mary Sommer had 14 assists, four kills and four digs, while Abbe DeGraw added 10 kills to lead the third-seeded Ganders.

Allie Kinder had 10 aces; Mackenzie Fischer added eight kills; while Victoria Somer contribute­d four kills and three blocks. Rondout travel to play No. 2 Spackenkil­l today.

In today’s other semifinal, top-seeded Port Jervis hosts No. 5 James I. O’Neill.

Gabrielle Nelson had 20 assists and 11 digs to lead the sixth-seeded Dukes. Leah Heimink had 11 digs, while Jewel Schroeder added six kills in the loss. O’Neill 3, Red Hook 1

At Red Hook, Kassie Miller had 14 assists, eight digs, seven aces, seven kills and one block in the 16-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-22 loss.

Cassidy Stride added 12 digs, eight kills and three aces for the fourth-seeded Raiders.

Kallie Kean led O’Neill with 27 digs, 12 kills and seven aces, while Hailey Hill added 12 digs, five kills and two aces.

Class C

Rhinebeck 3, Chester 0

At Rhinebeck, Anna Booz had 23 assists, eight points, three aces and one kill to lead the fourth-seeded Hawks.

Lauren Platt had 11 points, 11 digs, six kills and three aces, while Nora Shanahan added 13 digs, eight kills and three points in the win for Rhinebeck, which travels to play No. 1 Millbrook today.

In the other semifinal, No. 2 Burke Catholic hosts No. 3 Dover.

Alexis Amador (10 assists, two blocks), Ashley Battiato (five kills, four digs two aces) and Isabella Steinberg (five kills, two aces, two blocks, two digs) led No. 5 Chester.
