Wastewater treatment plant contract approved
A third contract for the wastewater treatment plant's overhaul was authorized by Mayor Steve Noble.
A third contract for an overhaul at the wastewater treatment plant has been authorized by Mayor Steve Noble, a city official said.
City Engineer Ralph Swenson said the contract for replacement of the heating and cooling system at the plan has been awarded to DJ Heating & Air Conditioning Inc. In September, the company bid $149,426 for the project.
Swenson said the work, along with other repairs being made at the East Stand plant, is likely to begin this winter. All of the work is expected to be completed in a year, he added.
City documents show that S&O Construction Services, Inc. bid $158,860 for the air conditioning and heating contract.
W.M. Schultz Construction, Inc. of Ballston Spa was the low bidder as the general contractor for repairs to be made at the plant at $2,028,000. OCS lndustries, lnc., of Middletown submitted a bid of $2,047,000, documents show.
The total repair project was estimated to cost $3,276,250, but much of that is expected to be reimbursed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Some of the planned repairs and upgrades are necessary because of flooding during Superstorm Sandy in October 2012, which is also why FEMA is pitching in financially.
The treatment plant, close to the city’s Rondout Creek waterfront, is the city’s only such facility and serves approximately 30,000 people. Most of the plant was built in the 1940s, but it’s been upgraded roughly every 10 years.
Swenson said the current repair project, once it gets underway, will take about a year to complete.
