Doctorow performs in seasonal concert
WHAT: Seasonal concert WHEN: Dec. 15 from 6 to 7 p.m. WHERE: Third floor of Tivoli Free Library, 86 Broadway, Tivoli
DETAILS: Folk musician Caroline Doctorow will present at uplifting seasonal concert. The show will include standards such as “Winter Wonderland,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “Dreidel Song,” “Let it Snow< and “Deck the Halls,” as well as Doctorow’s original holiday songs and several instrumentals, all delivered in her unique American/folk style that people of all ages and backgrounds will enjoy. Sing-alongs and audience participation will be encouraged. Joining Doctorow will be fiddler Gary Olevar.

Bus trip to lay wreaths at military cemetery on Dec. 16
WHAT: Bus trip to Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery
WHEN/WHERE: Dec. 16, with bus leaving from the Frank Greco Senior Center, 207 Market St., Saugerties
DETAILS: Saugerties Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5034 is hosting a bus trip to the Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in conjunction with the National Annual “Wreaths across America” program. Participants will assist with the laying of wreaths on the grave sites. The ceremony is conducted at over 1,200 locations around the country and the world. At the cemetery, participants will take part in a ceremony and instructions on the placing of the wreaths. The ceremony lasts about 30 minutes and those attending may wish to bring a folding chair. Dress according to the weather. Upon leaving the cemetery, participants will travel to the Schuylerville American Legion Hall for a cash luncheon before returning to Saugerties. The cost of the trip is $15 per person. Reservations are required. In addition, people can help with the goal of a wreath for each grave site by making a donation. Wreaths are $15 apiece.

Food lecture, workshop at Gardiner Library
WHAT: Food lecture and workshop WHEN: Dec. 3 from 3 to 4 p.m. WHERE: Gardiner Library, 133 Farmer’s Turnpike, Gardiner
DETAILS: The library is hosting a workshop and
lecture titled “Easy! Fun! Raw! Foods” with Johanna Sophia. Sophia will make “Super Healthy Holiday Cookies” for participants to take home, a pumpkin pie cheesecake everyone will be able to try and chocolate gingerbread truffles. Participants will not only learn about the science of human biology and climate change, but making the most delicious, super-healthy holiday treats for the whole family. The cost is $15. Preregistration is required by Nov. 29.

Author will give lecture at Vassar College
WHAT: Lecture WHEN: Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m.
WHERE: Sanders Classroom 212 in Spitzer Auditorium on the campus of Vassar College, 124 Raymond Ave., Poughkeepsie DETAILS: Author Nicole Gonzalez Van Cleve will give the biennial Norman E. Hodges Lecture on Race in American Law. She is the author of the award-winning book “Crook County: Racism and Injustice in America’s Largest Criminal Court.” Gonzalez Van Cleve is assistant professor at Temple University in the Department of Criminal Justice, with courtesy appointments in the Department of Sociology and the Beasley School of Law. She spent 10 years working in and investigating the largest criminal courthouse in the country, Chicago-Cook County, and, based on over 1,000 hours of observation, she takes readers inside our so-called halls of justice to witness the types of everyday racial abuses that fester within the courts. The event is free and open to the public.

Holiday event at Washington’s Headquarters Site
WHAT: Program, “Warm Up at the Washingtons’” WHEN: Dec. 10 from noon to 4 p.m. WHERE: Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site, 84 Liberty St., Newburgh
DETAILS: The Hasbrouck farmhouse George and Martha Washington occupied during the last winter of the Revolutionary War will be adorned for the holidays. Historic interpreters in each seasonally decorated room will greet visitors and share what took place when the Washingtons lived in the farmhouse. The Salmagundi Consort will perform period appropriate music by an indoor Dutch jambless fireplace, while cookies and warm cider will be served near an outdoor fire.
