Faso not our champion
Dear Editor: Previous letters and reports state U.S. Rep. John Faso, R-Kinderhook, gets credit for voting against the GOP House tax bill as if he opposed the elimination of state and local tax deductions that would hurt New Yorkers.
You just had to read the “Congressional roll call” in the Freeman that week to know that Faso also voted against an attempt to specifically remove from that bill those provisions to end the deductibility of state and local income taxes, sales taxes, and local property taxes on federal returns. It was just like when Faso voted to cut health care to thousands of his constituents.
Like Faso’s president, you can never trust his words, you must know his actions. Faso voted to oppose even debate on forming a committee to explore the causes of mass shootings and ways to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers. He also voted to remove legal rights of workers.
The GOP allows golf course owners to keep their deductions. The GOP slashing corporate tax rates only means more money to bribe congressmen and creating a huge deficit to justify House Speaker Paul Ryan’s admitted dream — ending Medicare.
I share the sadness of many to learn of former Rep. Maurice Hinchey’s passing. How we miss a champion for the people who accomplished so much for us. Hinchey was a man worthy of our respect and our vote.
