William N. Whispell, 80, of Kerhonkson

William N. Whispell, “Bill,” of Kerhonkson, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. He was 80 years old. Bill was born on June 29, 1937, in Kingston, N.Y.; he was the son of the late Newton H. and Regina (Vogt) Whispell.

Bill was very proud of his military service. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1954 following a short stint with the Army National Guard. He served aboard the USS Waccamaw, traveled to many places and commission­ed many ships into service. Bill was honorably discharged in 1962.

At one point, Bill volunteere­d with the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club. Bill was a former board member of the New Paltz Church of the Nazarene. He worked at the Department of Correction­s and retired in 1986 from Eastern Correction­al Facility. In his down time, he enjoyed woodworkin­g and carpentry, always paying attention to every detail. He was also an avid gardener and woodsman.

Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon (Dymond) Whispell; their sons, William Whispell and his wife Karen of Potsdam and Russell Whispell of Kerhonkson; four grandchild­ren, Kimberly Angleburge­r and her husband Jeff, William, Christophe­r, and Matthew Whispell; three greatgrand­children, Liam, Madelyn, and Landon; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Bill was predecease­d by his siblings, Regina Ruger, Newton Whispell II and Wanita Kuhne.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, from 10 a.m. to noon, with a celebratio­n of his life with military honors immediatel­y following at Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson.
