The collision happened in the parking lot of the Coyote Flaco restaurant and lounge on state Route 9H in Claverack.

A Stuyvesant man died and a Hudson man was treated for chest pain after a five-vehicle crash in the parking lot of the Coyote Flaco restaurant and lounge on state Route 9H, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

About 6:50 p.m Tuesday, Ronald E. Moore, 73, of Stuyvesant, was northbound in a 199 Chevrolet Suburban on Route 9H, just north of Van Wyck Lane, in Claverack when, for an undetermined reason, his vehicle went off the east side of the road about 250 feet south of the restaurant’s parking lot at 6032 Route 9H, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Moore’s vehicle continued north into the parking lot, where it struck a 2015 Jeep occupied by Steven A. Hart, 54, of Hudson, the Sheriff’s Office said. The impact of the collision pushed the Jeep into two unoccupied vehicles, a 2015 Toyota Highlander and a 2011 Toyota Sienna; and the Toyota then struck an unoccupied 2010 Kia station wagon.

The Greenport Rescue Squad took Moore, who was the sole occupant in the Suburban, to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, where he was later pronounced dead, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Hart was also taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital and treated for chest pain. There were no passengers in his vehicle.

The crash remained under investigation and an autopsy was scheduled Wednesday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
