Chiefs suspend cornerback Marcus Peters for one-game

The Chiefs have suspended Marcus Peters for Sunday’s game against Oakland after the volatile young cornerback’s embarrassing tantrum during a last-minute loss to the Jets last weekend.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Peters would not practice with the team as it prepares to face the Raiders in a crucial showdown between teams tied atop the AFC West.

Peters, an All-Pro last season, will return the following week against the Chargers.

Peters has been involved in a series of incidents that have reflected poorly on the Chiefs, but his antics last Sunday in New York pushed Reid to act.

Taggart will make $30 million over 6 years

Willie Taggart’s contract as Florida State’s new head football coach will pay him $30 million over six years.

The university released the letter of understanding signed by Taggart after he was announced as the Seminoles’ new coach on Wednesday. Florida State will also pay the $1,370,122.28 he still owes South Florida and $3 million owed to Oregon as part of buyouts of his previous contracts.

The 41-year old Bradenton native coached at South Florida for four seasons before going to Oregon. Taggart replaces Jimbo Fisher, who resigned to accept the opening at Texas A&M.

Taggart has a 47-50 career record, including 7-5 this season, but is known as a rebuilder. Florida State (6-6) will face Southern Mississippi in the Dec. 27 Independence Bowl.

Brown probing alleged hazing on swim team

Brown University said it has launched an investigation into alleged hazing on the men’s varsity swimming and diving team at the Ivy League school, after a probe by its student newspaper.

The Brown Daily Herald reported that it reviewed text messages, emails, photos and recordings of conversations among team members, who described Oct. 7 as a night of “initiation” or “hazing,” with heavy drinking, vandalism and other activities.

The newspaper found that multiple first-year members of the team vomited that night and team members vandalized a statue of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius seated atop a horse by climbing on it and smashing Smirnoff Ice vodka bottles against it.
