Teen accused of threatening students
The 17-year-old was charged with the felony of making a terroristic threat and sent to the Dutchess County Jail.
A Roosevelt High School student was arrested early Wednesday for allegedly threatening to shoot other students at the high school using the Snapchat social media app, according to town police.
Elijha A. Bonet, 17, of Hyde Park, was arrested without incident by town police at his home early Wednesday and charged with the felony of making a terroristic threat.
Lt. Robert Benson said a search of Bonet’s residence turned up “no evidence of any type of weapon.”
Benson said Bonet has been “cooperative and very apologetic,” and he said the message was only visible on Snapchat for “a little bit of time.”
Snapchat users can choose whether their postings remain visible for between one and 10 seconds.
Police were informed of the alleged threat on Tuesday, and an investigation found Bonet was involved, they said.
Benson said the alleged threat was not directed at an individual or group of individuals.
Bonet was arraigned in Hyde Park Town Court, sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail and ordered to complete a mental health evaluation, according to a police press release.
Benson said a mental health examination is “common practice” after arrests of this nature.
Bonet’s arrest came just five days after state police charged Nicholace J. Cioce, 17, of LaGrange, with making a terroristic threat for threatening to carry out a shooting at his high school.
Cioce allegedly tweeted about a shooting plan.
