Edward H. Reimuth Jr., 90, of the town of Ulster

TOWN OF ULSTER » Edward H. Reimuth Jr. longtime Poughkeeps­ie and Hyde Park resident, was called home to the Lord at home in the Town of Ulster on Dec. 12, 2017. He was age 90, with his loving wife Carroll by his side.

Ed was the son of Edward H. Reimuth Sr. and Ethel (Benton) Reimuth. He was born March 16, 1927, at Saint Francis Hospital, Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y.

Ed was the 33rd case of infantile paralysis in City of Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y., in 1931. Ed graduated from Poughkeeps­ie schools and attended Austin Peay College. Ed served his country as a paratroope­r with one hundred eleven jumps in World War II and Korean War. He received several awards and decoration­s, plus the World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 Battle Stars and United Nations Medal and Korean Presidenti­al Medal. He served with the Seventh Infantry Division and 11th Airborne Division, was a member of American Legion, Seventh Division Associatio­n and 32nd Infantry Aid. In 2016, Ed went to Washington, D.C., on Honor Flight 1000 to visit the Veterans Memorials of the Vietnam War, World War II and Korean War. While there, he also watched the Changing of the Guard.

Ed, retired from Hilderbran­dt Trucking, Hudson, N.Y., as a tractor trailer driver, then dispatcher, then operations manager. After retirement, Ed drove trucks for Rehab Programs, Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y. Ed was an avid reader, especially Civil War American history and biographie­s. Ed wanted to be a history teacher.

On Dec. 18. 2011, Edward married the love of his life, Carroll Marquardt; she survives in their loving home. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no services. He is predecease­d by his sister, Ethel Tornatore.
