Stephen Dodig, 90, of Blue Mountain Road, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at home, surrounded by his family.

Born Aug. 7, 1927, in Swoyervill­e, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Catherine (Orsulich) Dodig.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the U.S.S. Kearsarge. Upon his discharge from the Navy, Steve was awarded the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was later drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was an area resident for many years and was employed for over 30 years as an Operating Engineer as a member of Local 106 in Albany, N.Y. Steve was an avid sports fan. He served as a general manager of the Saugerties Dutchmen. He was a diehard Boston Red Sox and New York Giants fan. In his retirement, he enjoyed golfing, playing 9 holes almost every morning. He was also a loyal fan of his many children, grandchild­ren, nieces, and nephews, in all of their endeavors.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; daughter, Suzanne (Joseph) DodigSussm­an of Saugerties; two sons, Chris (Michelle) Dodig of Lanesborou­gh, Mass., and Stephen (Melissa) Dodig of Saugerties; and one brother, Michael (Irene) Dodig of Saugerties. Five grandchild­ren, Shaun Sussman, Erin, Grace, Stephen and Jake Dodig, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was predecease­d by his siblings, Rosalie Adamshack, John and Robert Dodig.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette streets, Saugerties. Friends will be received Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Family suggests donations in his memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n, www.alz.org.
