The Boston Red Sox held a Christmas carnival at Fenway Park on Saturday for fans who — like their favorite team — still have some shopping to do.

Thousands of people lined up in 20-degree temperatures to visit the ballpark and have the chance to buy tickets to some home games. There was also a yard sale, rides for the kids, balloon animals, face-painting, carolers and a chance to take pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

All that was missing was a power hitter for the middle of the lineup.

“We are focused on getting one person,” baseball boss Dave Dombrowski told reporters, repeating the same shopping list he had when he went to baseball’s winter meetings this week.

The Red Sox were non-contenders when the Marlins traded Giancarlo Stanton to the New York Yankees.

An Ohio man who snared a Joey Votto home run ball during a Cincinnati Reds game this summer is grateful for the chance to finally give the souvenir to the family of a 6-year-old boy who witnessed the blast just weeks before dying of cancer.

Wally Herbert, the father of Walter “Superbubz” Herbert, made an appeal this week for the home run ball so the family can add it to a memorial wall for Walter, who died Oct. 6.

Minutes after hitting the homer, Votto went into the stands to give Walter the home run bat and one of his No. 19 Reds jerseys during the game Aug. 31 in Cincinnati.

Trey Jones saw the appeal on WXIX-TV , looked up Wally Herbert on Facebook, and sent him a message.

“I have a 3-year-old son who would like to give you and your family something very special for Christmas,” Jones wrote.

Canada beats U.S. 3-1 in Olympic tune-up

Haley Irwin and Sarah Nurse scored in the second period, sending Canada to a 3-1 victory over the United States on Friday night in the latest Olympic tune-up between the world’s top powers in women’s hockey.

Marie-Philip Poulin also scored for Canada, and Ann-Renee Desbiens made 25 saves.

Brianna Decker opened the scoring for the U.S. with a power-play goal early in the second. Alex Rigsby stopped 33 shots in defeat.

Poulin made it 3-1 with her goal 55 seconds into the third.

It was the fifth of six meetings between the rivals as they prepare for the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea. They wrap up the series on Sunday night at Rogers Place, home of the Edmonton Oilers, in a game televised at 7 p.m. ET on the NHL Network.
