Friends of Historic Saugerties event on Jan. 6

WHAT: Friends of Historic Saugerties talk WHEN: Jan. 6 at 2 p.m.

WHERE: Community Room of Saugerties Public Library, 91 Washington Ave., Saugerties WHEN: The first talk of the new year is titled “Lost Industries of Ulster County: Brick Making and Ice Harvesting.” The presenter will be Marilou Abramshe, who has been involved in researchin­g various aspects of local history for more than 30 years. Since moving to Ulster County, she has presented at several local historical associatio­ns, led classes on Ulster County history for the Lifetime Learning Institute at SUNY New Paltz and helped to develop educationa­l materials for the Ulster County Clerk’s Office. The event is open to anyone interested in history. If anyone has bricks from specific local yards or small ice harvesting artifacts, feel welcome to bring them to display on the informatio­n table. Library hosts nicotine cessation program

WHAT: Program for quitting smoking and using nicotine WHEN: Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. WHERE: Starr Library, 68 W. Market St., Rhinebeck DETAILS: Do you want help to quit smoking and stop using nicotine? Members of the Rhinebeck and New Paltz fellowship­s will introduce those who do to Nicotine Anonymous, answer their questions and give them the support and informatio­n they need to help them overcome this powerful addiction.
