Browns hoping to ruin plans for 0-16 parade
Not everyone loves a parade.
With the Browns two losses from an imperfect 0-16 season, some Cleveland fans are planning to “celebrate” the inglorious accomplishment with a one-lap parade around FirstEnergy Stadium next month.
The group recently received a donation of more than $7,000 from Excedrin to fund the event.
The fans had a similar parade scheduled last year before the Browns pulled out a Christmas Eve win over the then-San Diego Chargers and finished 1-15. The Browns are hoping to avoid joining the 2008 Detroit Lions as the only teams in NFL history to lose all 16 games. Browns center JC Tretter said Monday that he and his teammates hope to ruin the perverse parade again with a win on Sunday in Chicago. Tretter said he’s not a fan of the idea, “but it doesn’t offend me. They can plan whatever they want, but I hope we ruin it.”
UConn still unanimous No. 1 in AP women’s hoops poll
UConn remains the unanimous No. 1 team in The Associated Press women’s basketball poll.
There wasn’t much movement in the Top 25 this week with most schools in exam break.
The Huskies (8-0), who received all 32 votes from the national media panel on Monday, had the week off and will play on Tuesday against Oklahoma as coach Geno Auriemma goes for his 1,000th career victory. The top five teams stayed the same with Notre Dame, Louisville, South Carolina and Mississippi State following UConn.
Baylor, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia and Oregon round out the top 10. The Mountaineers and Ducks flipped spots after Oregon lost at Mississippi State.
UCLA and South Florida slipped up this week losing at Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, respectively. The Bruins dropped four spots to No. 11 while the Bulls fell six places to No. 22.
Patrick-Stenhouse end 5-year relationship
Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. have split as a couple after nearly five years.
A spokeswoman for Patrick confirmed to The Associated Press on Monday that the drivers are “no longer in a relationship.”
Patrick didn’t attend the season-ending awards ceremony last month in Las Vegas with Stenhouse, who was honored for making NASCAR’s playoffs in 2017. That led to speculation about the most prolific couple in motorsports. Patrick and Stenhouse announced they were dating in early 2013. She confirmed that by telling the AP: “I have a boyfriend, his name is Richard.”
It was an unconventional pairing. They raced against each other weekly, and over the course of their relationship they clashed competitively, leading to post-race disagreements.
Patrick is 35 and had been previously married before she began dating Stenhouse. He recently turned 30.
