Kingston man indicted for alleged urine attack at jail
KINGSTON, N.Y. » A Kingston man who is serving a 12-year sentence in state prison for burglary has been indicted by a grand jury for allegedly throwing urine at an Ulster County Jail corrections officer in April, the county Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Dayshawn “Stacks” Allen, 23, an inmate at the Elmira Correctional Facility, was brought back to Ulster County Court on Wednesday and arraigned on one felony count of aggravated harassment of an employee by an inmate. He then was returned to the custody of the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.
Allen began his sentence at Elmira on May 25, according to the corrections department.
On April 21, when Allen was an inmate at the Ulster County Jail prior to being transferred to state custody, a corrections officer was making rounds when Allen called the officer over to his cell and threw liquid at the officer, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
An examination of the officer’s clothing by the state police Forensic Investigation Center found the liquid contained urine, the he Sheriff’s Office said.
Allen is to be returned to Ulster County Court for future court appearances.
Allen is serving time in state prison after pleading guilty on Feb. 24 to forcing his way into a Cedar Street home in Kingston, armed with a tire iron and what appeared to be a handgun, and then robbing the occupants. The incident happened on July 21, 2016.
Authorities said Allen and another man stole electronic games, jewelry and other personal property.
Unbeknownst to Allen and his alleged accomplice, one of the occupants of the apartment fled and flagged down a Kingston police officer. When police arrived, one officer saw Allen jump a fence into an adjacent yard on Henry Street, and another was able to stop Allen a few minutes later after he emerged from the yard.
Allen was sweating and carrying a bag containing all of the stolen items, police said at the time.
