“This was a big win for our team and an excellent defensive effort against a good Millbrook team,” said Ellenville coach Ben Bonitz, whose team improved to 2-0 in the MHAL and 5-1 overall.

At Red Hook, the Raiders continued their turnaround with a third consecutive victory to even their record at 3-3.

Red Hook shook off a 5-0 deficit to lead 12-10 after one quarter, but a scrappy Highland squad regained control and led by nine at the break.

“We had a much better second-half effort defensively,” said Raider coach Matt Hayes, whose team outscored Highland 34-19 after the intermission.

The Huskies had closed the gap, but a clutch Chris Yearwood 3-pointer with less than two minutes remaining cushioned Red Hook’s lead.

Yearwood had 17 points and Hunter Cole added 12 points and nine rebounds to pace the Raiders. Luke Crittenden (nine points, including a pair of treys in the fourth) and Brandon Cahill (four points, four assists, three steals) came off the bench for big contributions.
