The following items are based on information provided by officials in law enforcement and the criminal justice system.
City of Kingston
• Contraband: Michael J. Ortiz, 32, of Napanoch, was arrested by state police at Wawarsing at 2:30 a.m. Friday at the Ulster County Jail, 380 Boulevard, and was charged with misdemeanor introducing contraband in prison and with possession of marijuana, a violation. Ortiz was returned to the jail.
• Burglary/assault:
Wilmer Giron-Reyes, 34, of Cedar Street, Kingston, was arrested by Kingston police on Thursday and charged with burglary, a felony, and with assault, a misdemeanor. Giron-Reyes’ arrest followed a Dec. 13 domestic incident on Albany Avenue in which a 29-year-old woman was assaulted; police said Giron-Reyes allegedly fled the scene. He was arraigned in Kingston City Court and released with a court appearance ticket.
Cairo
• DWI/obstruction: Jessie A. Perell, 28, and William Dean, 24, both of Earlton, were arrested by state police at Coxsackie at 2 a.m. Friday on Schoharie Turnpike. Perell was charged with two felony counts of drunken driving. Dean was charged with drunken driving, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest, all misdemeanors, and with harassment, a violation. Perell was released after posting bail; Dean was sent to the Greene County Jail pending a court appearance. Further information was unavailable.
Durham
• DWI: Vincent J. Kelly, 22, of Preston Hollow, was arrested by state police at Coxsackie at 5:57 p.m. Thursday on state Route 67A and was charged with drunken driving and driving with a blood-alcohol level exceeding 0.08 percent, both misdemeanors, and with possession of marijuana, a violation. Kelly was released with a ticket for Durham Town Court.
• DWI: Timothy R. Leahy, 68, of Durham, was arrested by state police at Coxsackie at 6:24 p.m. Thursday on state Route 81 and was charged with drunken driving and driving with a blood-alcohol level exceeding 0.08 percent, both misdemeanors, and with following too closely, an infraction. Leahy was released with a ticket for Durham Town Court.
Saugerties
• Criminal contempt/ drugs: Ronald A. Jackson, 26, of 3127 U.S. Route 9W, Saugerties, was arrested by Saugerties police on Thursday and was charged with criminal contempt, a felony; two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of criminal impersonation, all misdemeanors. At 8:19 a.m. Thursday, police responded to the Wenton Motel on U.S. Route 9W in the town for a reported physical domestic dispute. They interviewed a female victim who reported that a male friend had fled on foot. A check by police found there was an order of protection in place between the two parties. Jackson was found walking on Route 9W. When confronted by officers, police said, he claimed to be someone else, and was found with concentrated marijuana in addition to a controlled substance in a plastic bag. Jackson also had an outstanding arrest warrant from the city of Kingston for criminal impersonation. He was arraigned in Saugerties Town Court and sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail pending a further court appearance.
Town of Ulster
• DWI/DWAI-drugs: Craig E. Brown, 62, of Kingston, was arrested by state police at Ulster at 1:55 a.m. Friday on Ulster Avenue and was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, drunken driving and driving while ability impaired by drugs, all misdemeanors; having a controlled substance in non-original container, a violation; and with multiple traffic infractions. Brown was released with a ticket for Ulster Town Court.
• DWI: Jonathan P. Sutter, 22, of Pine Bush, was arrested by state police at Highland at 2:14 a.m. Friday on state Route 32 in the town and was charged with drunken driving and aggravated drunken driving, both misdemeanors. Sutter was released with a ticket for Ulster Town Court.
