Screening of Leon Russell documentar­y on Jan. 17

WHAT: Screening of documentar­y on Leon Russell WHEN: Jan. 17 at 7:15 p.m. WHERE: Rosendale Theatre, 408 Main St., Rosendale DETAILS: The theatre will screen the documentar­y “A Poem Is a Naked Person,” which examines the career of rocker Leon Russell. As a pianist, Russell played on albums by the Beach Boys and Jan and Dean. He also produced and played in recording sessions for Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Ike & Tina Turner, and the Rolling Stones. When he went solo, Russell recorded his first album in 1970 with legends Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. In 1972, Russell commission­ed filmmaker Les Blank to make a documentar­y about him. Blank kept his camera rolling over the course of two years, ending up with nearly 60 hours of 16 mm footage, resulting in the documentar­y, which runs 90 minutes. Admission is $8, $6 for members. Hudson Valley Folk Guild event Jan. 20 in Poughkeeps­ie

WHAT: Hudson Valley Folk Guild event WHEN: Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. WHERE: Unitarian Fellowship, 67 S. Randolph Ave., Poughkeeps­ie DETAILS: The Hudson Valley Folk Guild’s Poughkeeps­ie chapter continues its 2017-2018 coffeehous­e series, with Kevin and Carol Becker, joined by Rich Keyes, as the featured act. Performing together regularly for over 20 years, the trio have developed a unique sound that combines breathtaki­ng vocals, instrument­al dexterity and a synergy that comes only from an intimate knowledge of each other’s talents. The coffeehous­e performanc­es start with an open mic format, followed by the featured act. Admission is $6, $5 for folk guild members.
