Recent candidate in line to fill Town Board seat
The Town Board will meet on New Year’s Day to vote on appointing Michael MacIsaac to the board seat being vacated by Fred Costello, who is becoming town supervisor.
The meeting is scheduled for noon Monday at the senior center, 207 Market St.
MacIsaac, 57, of 1632 Old Kings Highway, is a Democrat who served on the Saugerties school board from 2003 to 2007 and lost the Ulster County Legislature District 1 election last month to incumbent Republican Mary Wawro by six votes.
MacIsaac also twice ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the Town Board.
MacIsaac has lived in the town of Saugerties for 25 years and is a systems programmer for ADP.
“One of my passionate issues is internet access,” he said. “I think the town of Saugerties will flourish better, will be able to get better jobs, if we have more internet competition. We need to have accessible, reliable, fast and affordable service.”
MacIsaac also said the town must continue working toward energy efficiency.
“Saugerties was actually the first community in Ulster County to be recognized by New York state as ‘climate smart,’” he said. “I have been active with the Climate Smart Subcommittee in the last two months and plan stay active with the Ulster County Climate Smart Committee.”
MacIsaac served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1979 to 1983 and earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Northeastern University in Boston in 1987.
He and his wife, Deborah, have three children.
