Wallkill, Highland earn tourney wins

Wallkill High’s girls basketball team reached the finals of its own Coaches vs. Cancer holiday tournament Thursday, defeating Onteora 57-32.

The Panthers play in the finals 6 p.m. Friday.

Brianna Cross scored 11 of her game-high 18 points in the second half and also grabbed five rebounds to lead Wallkill. Emma Schwarzbec­k had 11 points and seven rebounds and Kiera Power added 10 points and five rebounds to help guide the Panthers.

Ashley Hilliard had six point and Grace Hallinan (six points) and Juliette Patterson (four points) each grabbed 10 rebounds to pace Onteora. At Highland, Bri Rozzi had a double-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists to lead the (4-1) Huskies in a Holiday tournament. Emily Peterson chipped in with 10 points for Highland, which had a 24-17 halftime edge.

Issy Herrera paced Spackenkil­l with 16 points.
