William ‘Butch’ McCarthy, 74, of Catskill

William “Butch” McCarthy, 74, of Catskill, passed away on Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital.

He was born in Catskill, a son of the late Charles McCarthy and Mabel Denniston McCarthy Palmer.

A Catskill High School graduate, he entered the U.S. Air Force in 1963. Butch served in Okinawa, Japan, and was discharged in 1967.

He married Rosemary DeMatteo on May 3, 1969.

Butch worked at G.E., Selkirk, from 1968 – 2002 as a technician. He later worked as the Emergency Services Director at the Red Cross, Kingston, from 2003 – 2009.

He had a passion for drum corps competitio­ns and enjoyed playing and watching golf. Butch was a parishione­r of St. Patrick’s Church, Catskill.

Loving husband of Rosemary McCarthy, father of Sean McCarthy (Rebecca) of Coxsackie and Kyle McCarthy (Amira) of Wappingers Falls; grandfathe­r of Jacob and Ellie McCarthy. He was the stepson of the late William Palmer.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Friday, Jan. 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Hgts., Catskill. Family and friends will gather at St. Patrick’s Church, Catskill on Saturday for an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass.
