Mayor Steve Noble says “Keep Moving Forward” will be the theme of his second State of the City address to be delivered Tuesday.

Noble, who started his third year as mayor this month, will give his speech at the start of the Common Council meeting which begins at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Noble expects to line up what he considers were achievements and challenges in 2017 and outline goals for this year.

“I have said a number of times that the greatest strength of our City is its people,” Noble said in an email after being asked to preview the address. “And while I would describe our community members as strong, kind and hardworking, the word that continues to come back to me time and time again is persistent.”

“Our community’s perseverance is the foundation of our success,” Noble added.

Noble said that the community, “challenges have only made us stronger. Our failures have only made us work harder,” he said. “Our disappointments have only made us more ambitious.”

Noble said that his speech is likely to point out city assets.

“This year’s State of the City address will reflect on some of our greatest tests, as well as areas in which we have made incredible progress,” Noble said. “While I am proud of these accomplishments, there is too much work to be done to rest on them. We must keep moving forward.”

Noble promised substantial happenings for this year.

“2018 will include great strides in the areas of economic development, infrastructure, transportation, quality housing, arts and culture, health and wellness, and more,” Noble said. “In addition, we will continue our efforts to make Kingston a welcoming, inclusive and accessible city for all of our community members.”

Some of the matters Noble is likely to point to as achievements will be the securing of a $10 million grant for Uptown improvements, payment kiosk installed in municipal lots, a no-tax-increase budget, completion of the Greenkill Avenue bridge and a portion of the Safe Routes to School projects, among others.

Noble defeated former Alderman Ronald Polacco, a Republican, in November, 2015 to become mayor.

Noble took office in 2016. The mayor’s term runs for four years.
