KINGSTON » Deacon Alfonzia Dancy Sr., 65, of Van Buren Street, Kingston, a noted deacon and community leader, returned to his Lord, with his loving family at his side, on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at HealthAlli­ance Hospital, Broadway campus.

Deacon Dancy was a man of service and leadership who immersed himself in the service of the Lord as a father figure and faithful deacon of New Jerusalem United Holy Church of Kingston, N.Y., for 16 years. “A city which has foundation, whose builder and maker is God.” A servant of the City of Kingston, Deacon Dancy received numerous honors and awards for his spirit as a volunteer for City of Kingston causes, notably the Summer Sizzle basketball program, the Community Vegetable Garden, and numerous activities at The Hodge Center.

Employed for the greater part of his life in the livery and bus industry, Deacon Dancy Was employed by the Kingston Citibus for over 30 years.

Born in Whitakeres, N.C., Aug. 26, 1952, he was a son of the late Charles Dancy Sr. and Lucille Powell Dancy. The embodiment of his affection was to his family, who will cherish his memory: his Wife, Victoria I. (Perreavlt) Dancy; his children, Alfonzia Dancy Jr., and his wife Steisha, Anthony W. Dancy Sr., and his fiancee Sarah M. Schatzel, and Tama Dancy; grandchild­ren, Amari Dancy-Brodhead, Jeress Brodhead Jr., and Frankie Barnwell; and three brothers, Calvin and Lorenzo Dancy, and Eddie Molette. In addition to his parents, he was predecease­d by his daughter, Panda Joy Dancy; brother, Charles Dancy Jr.; sister, Mary Dancy; and grandson, Anthony W. Dancy Jr. Many nieces and nephews and his church family also survive.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston, N.Y. (www.jvleahyfh.com) Friends will be received at New Jerusalem United Holy Church of Kingston on Wednesday from 9 to 11 a.m. Service will begin at 11 a.m., followed by burial in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
