Onteora's Dillon Ross 5th in Eastern States
Onteora High's Dillon Ross led local wrestlers at the Eastern States Classic, placing fifth in the prestigious tourney.
Onteora High’s Dillon Ross led local wrestlers at the Eastern States Classic, placing fifth in the prestigious tournament at SUNY Sullivan.
Ross went 5-2 at 170 pounds for the Eagles, defeating Wyoming Seminary’s Jake Stefanowicz 7-3 in the fifth-place match to become the lone area competitor to place in the 2-day event. Pat Ross (120), Nick Ross (126), Nate Ross (138) and Zach Chartrand (145) also competed for Onteora.
Nikko Walsh, meanwhile, went 3-2, advancing to the quarterfinals at 99 pounds, to lead Rondout Valley. After winning his first three bouts, Walsh dropped his final two. Ganders teammate Ian Houck, meanwhile, went 2-2 at 145.
James Heinlein (126), Graeme Knisell (160), Matt Bucci (170) and Anthony Owen (182) competed for Saugerties.
More than 150 schools, including area schools Kingston, Red Hook and Wallkill, also competed in the tournament.
Area teams return to Section 9 action on Wednesday, with Kingston at Middletown; Onteora at Chester; Red Hook at Rondout; Saugerties at Wallkill; New Paltz at Highland; and Ellenville at Port Jervis.
