New Paltz library hosts talk on China

WHAT: Illustrate­d talk on China WHEN: Jan. 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. WHERE: Elting Memorial Library, 93 Main St., New Paltz DETAILS: The library will host the first in series of workshops and events in honor of the Chinese New Year. Professor Kristine Harris of the Department of History and Asian Studies Program at SUNY New Paltz and Professor Shan Li of the Department of Fine Arts Studies, Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in Wuhan, China, and currently a visiting scholar in the Department of Art History at SUNY New Paltz will lead an illustrate­d talk about lunar New Year traditions and contempora­ry life in China. The topics will include how the annual spring festival has been represente­d in Chinese art and contempora­ry culture. A question-and-answer session will follow. Used book sale on Feb. 17 at Kingston Library

WHAT: Winter Used Book Sale WHEN: Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with snow date of march 3 WHERE: Basement of Kingston Library, 55 Franklin St., Kingston DETAILS: The Friends of the Kingston Library will have a Winter Used Book Sale. The sale will feature an abundance of children’s books, as well as movies on VHS and DVD. Hard cover books, audio books, CDs and DVDs will be $1 apiece or three for $2. Paperbacks, LPs and audiocasse­ttes will be 50 cents each. All children’s items, including videos, will be $25 apiece, with VHS tapes and magazines 10 cents each.
