A Powerball lottery ticket worth $1 million was bought at a Smoker’s Choice store in this Greene County community, according to the state lottery division.

The ticket, for Wednesday night’s drawing, matched all five of the game’s main numbers, but not the Powerball number. Had the local player also matched the Powerball, he or she would have hit the $62 million jackpot.

No one in the U.S. had all five number plus the Powerball, so the jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing will be $78 million. The ticket sold in the store at 18 Boulevard Ave. in Catskill was the only one in the nation to match the five main numbers.

The numbers drawn Wednesday were 3, 33, 37, 51, 57 and Powerball 21. The Catskill player bought his or her ticket using the Quick Pick method, meaning the store’s lottery computer picked the numbers at random.

The Powerball jackpot climbs each time there is no winner. The secondand third-prize pots always are $1 million and $50,000, respectively, before withholdings. To win the $50,000 prize, a player must match four of the five main numbers, plus the Powerball.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. The odds of winning the million-dollar second prize are 1 in 11.7 million.

Powerball tickets are sold in 44 states, including New York, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Drawings are on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The cost is $2 per play.

The five main numbers are drawn from a field of 1 to 69. The Powerball is drawn from a field of 1 to 26.

The holders of winning lottery tickets in New York state can claim their prizes for up to one year from the date of the drawing.
