Kingston High girls lose to undefeated Warwick

The Kingston High girls team hung tough before dropping a 38-30 decision to undefeated Warwick.

Kingston High’s girls basketball team hung tough with unbeaten Warwick on Friday night, but lost 38-30 as the Wildcats were able to pull away for a big non-league victory.

The (7-4) Tigers were hampered as three starters (Jaid Harrell, Nicole Spinelli, Lanasia Dorsey) sat for much of the first half in foul trouble.

Kingston, however, found itself down only 22-16 at intermission. It held the (15-0) Wildcats to just two points in the third quarter.

“Unfortunately, we only scored eight,” Kingston coach Steve Garner, who found his team tied at 24-24 heading into the final quarter, said, “We played our best defense in that third quarter.”

Emily Welling had 2 points and Lauren Desrats 10 to lead Warwick, which hit four-of-six foul shots in the last minute to clinch the win.

Chloe Chaffin had 13 points to pace Kingston.

“It was a very hard-nosed game. Our defensive effort was there. It felt like a sectional game,” Garner said.

“It was a disappointing loss. We had a really, really strong effort. We just couldn’t hit key shots. We had a lot of open looks.”

The Tigers missed a pair of

3-point attempts in the late going. At one stretch in the third, Kingston pulled down six offensive rebounds, but failed to capitalize.
