Rose Filocco, 96, of Esopus, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at Golden Hill Health Care Center in Kingston.

She was born May 23, 1921, in Sicily, to the late Salvatore and Mary (LaPlaca) Scelso. Rose was married to Thomas Filocco Sr. Thomas passed away on April 6, 1996.

Rose emigrated from Sicily in 1929. She later graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx, class of 1940. She was a parishione­r of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Esopus for many years. She had worked as a senior clerk for the New York State Insurance Fund in New York City and later at Joseph O’Connor Electric in Kingston. Rose was an avid reader; she enjoyed knitting, cooking, and above all, spending time with her family.

Rose is survived by her sons, Thomas I. Filocco of Ulster Park, Charles (Nancy) Filocco, Rhinebeck, John (Mary “Dee”) Filocco of Port Ewen; her grandchild­ren, Melissa Provost, Jessica Filocco, and Charles Filocco; five great-grandchild­ren; her sister, Lena Bratsch; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predecease­d by her siblings, Pat Scelso, Rosario Scelso, Joseph Scelso, Mary Anderson, Ellen Cabon, and Elvira Donato.

Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, N.Y. 12466, where family and friends may call on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral procession will form on Thursday Jan. 25, 2018, at 10 a.m. and proceed to Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 1055 Broadway, Esopus, N.Y. 12429, where at 11 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial in Riverview Cemetery, Port Ewen, will take place in the spring.
