Clemson back-up QB Israel to transfer

Clemson is losing another backup quarterback with Tucker Israel’s decision to leave the program.

Israel said on the team’s Twitter feed Monday he will graduate from Clemson and then seek to play elsewhere.

Earlier this month, reserve quarterback Zerrick Cooper also announced he was leaving the Tigers.

Israel is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound quarterback from Orlando, Florida who at Lake Nona High School surpassed Tim Tebow’s Florida prep record with 56 passing touchdowns in a season.

Israel played in just two games for Clemson in 2016.

He had hoped to compete with Kelly Bryant for the starting job this fall, but a serious stomach ailment kept him off the field and out of the lineup.

Few arrests in Eagles celebration after win

Philadelphia police say few arrests have been made amid celebrations following the Eagles’ NFC championship game victory.

The arrests came as thousands of fans took to the streets following the Eagles’ 38-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night. The Eagles advanced to their first Super Bowl since 2005, against the AFC champion New England Patriots.

After Sunday’s game, huge crowds gathered around the city.

Police say one man is accused of punching a police horse and a mounted officer who was trying to disperse a crowd in a stadium parking lot before the game. Police also reported two arrests for disorderly conduct and three arrests for counterfeit ticket sales.

Earlier in the day, workers who jokingly called themselves the “Crisco Cops” greased light poles to prevent fans from climbing them.

FIFA talks to possible video replay sponsor

A FIFA executive says video replays will be used at the World Cup for the first time and talks are underway with potential sponsors to appear when the technology is used.

Soccer’s rule-making panel was meeting Monday to assess recent trials ahead of video assistant referees (VAR) being officially approved by FIFA for use in Russia in June and July.

FIFA chief commercial officer Philippe Le Floc’h tells The Associated Press that “definitely VAR will happen. I think it’s great to have technology in football because this is also a fair(ness) thing.”

Discussing whether VAR would appear in conjunction with a sponsor at the World Cup, Floc’h said “we are talking to various technological companies who are very interested with what we are doing on the technology side of things.”
