KINGSTON » Stacey Lyn Hommel, 49, of Kingston, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, surrounded by family following a courageous 5-year battle with cancer.

Born Oct. 1, 1968, in Kingston, N.Y.; she is the daughter of Judith Weishaupt Van Allen of Kingston and the late Gary R. Van Allen.

Stacey graduated from John A. Coleman High School in 1986. Stacey was employed as a dispatcher for both the Kingston Police Department and later by the Town of Ulster Police Department. She also worked as a waitress in many different restaurant­s throughout the Kingston area while raising her family. Stacey was very passionate about crafting, gardening, cheerleadi­ng, and spending time with friends and family. In addition to cheerleadi­ng, she also participat­ed in other sports such as women’s softball, skiing, and bowling. Her favorite sports teams included the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Mets. Stacey was known to be the most loving mother, daughter, and sister.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her sons, Matthew F. Hommel and Cameron J. Hommel, and daughters, Meaghan E. Hommel and Claudia E. Hommel, all residents of Kingston. Stacey is also survived by her two brothers, Eric J. Van Allen and Kyle R. Van Allen; and two grandchild­ren, John F. “LJ” Yonnetti IV, and Giovanna M. Yonnetti, who knew and loved her as their “Nanny”.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Smith Avenue. www.jvleahyfh.com Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral procession will form Friday 9 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in the Wiltwyck Cemetery.
