Police say man had more than 350 pounds of pot
MIDEOLA, N.Y. (AP) » A New York man has been arrested on charges he
possessed more than 350 pounds of marijuana plus drug paraphernalia and weapons.
Micah Raskin, of Old Westbury, was arraigned Wednesday in Nassau County on felony drug and weapon charges.
Local law enforcement agencies worked with federal authorities to arrest the 49-year-old Raskin.
Angel Melendez, the head of Homeland Security Investigations for New York, said Raskin trafficked hundreds of pounds of marijuana across state lines.
Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas said investigators discovered that Raskin was supplying large amounts of marijuana and hash oils to the Baltimore area.
Raskin faces up to eight years in prison if he is convicted of the top counts against him.
An attorney for Raskin, Benjamin Simpson, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
Search under way for missing skier
WILMINGTON, N.Y. (AP)
» State police and forest rangers are searching Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks for a 49-yearold Toronto firefighter who was last seen by his skiing party Wednesday afternoon.
The state Olympic Regional Development Authority, which runs the Whiteface ski center, is leading the search. A spokesman says 35 people were assisting in search efforts.
State Police Information Officer Jennifer Fleishman says the skier went missing about the same time as a strong snowstorm was making visibility poor. More than a foot of snow has fallen in the last 24 hours.
A helicopter and search dogs were assisting in the search effort Thursday.
Frank Ramagnano, spokesman for the Toronto Professional Firefighters Association, tells the Adirondack Daily Enterprise the missing man is part of a group of firefighters making their annual ski trip.
