8th-grade standout Johnson scores 44 points to move within 12 of 1,000

Eighth-grader Dior Johnson scored a carer-high 44 points, moving to within 12 of 1,000, by going 12 for 12 at the foul line and adding eight steals and three rebounds as Saugerties High rolled over Highland 95-60 in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League boys basketball game.

Leading 18-16 after the first quarter, the Sawyers surged ahead with a 35-12 second to lead 53-28 at the half. Saugerties then followed with a 28-17 third to put it out of reach.

Austin Curlin scored 14 points and had five assists and Nick Smith added 10, while Nick Smith scored five points and had four rebounds and five assists to power the Sawyers, who host Pine Plains 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Sean Bankert scored 17 points and Tyler Benjamin contributed 14 to pace the Huskies. Johnson scored 20 points as the Blue Devils downed the Statesmen to improve to 152, 10-1.

John Qquendo added 10 points, and Max Rodriguez contributed eight to lead Ellenville.

Jared Milano scored 11 points, Angelo Rogers had nine and Logan Winnie contributed six to carry Coleman.
