Anthony Testerman, 27, of Wappinger, has been charged with a felony and several misdemeanors.

A Wappinger man was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident after a three-car crash on Route 376 near Maloney Road, according to the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they found one driver, Anita Duncan, 71, of Hopewell Junction, trapped in her vehicle. She was removed and taken to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where she was pronounced dead, they said.

The Sheriff’s Office said Duncan had been southbound on Route 376 when her car was struck headon by a northbound vehicle driven by Anthony Testerman, 27, of Wappinger, that had failed to keep right.

Both vehicles then struck a third car, driven by Joseph Quick, 25, of Kingston, which was headed south behind the Duncan car, deputies said.

The Sheriff’s Office said Testerman fled on foot immediately after the crash but was located a short time later with the help of a police dog.

Testerman was charged with the felony for leaving the scene of a fatal accident; the misdemeanors of circumventing an interlock device, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and criminal possession of marijuana; as well as refusal to submit to a breath test, deputies said.

He was taken to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, and additional charges were pending, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Quick was uninjured, deputies said.
