Plaza developer gets 12-month extension
The proposal by Pasquale Iovieno calls a two-story, 14,400-square-foot structure at 1204 Ulster Ave.
The Town Board has extended for 12 months the site plan approval for a proposed retail plaza on Ulster Avenue.
The plans calls a twostory, 14,400-square-foot structure at 1204 Ulster Ave., behind the Five Guys Burgers & Fries fast-food restaurant.
Developer Pasquale Iovieno said when he received initial approval last year that the plaza would be called Kingswood Park and would have between five and seven retail business and possibly a restaurant.
The Town Board, in extending the site plan approval, also agreed to hire an archeologist to review a circle of stone pillars on a ridge at the site
Town Supervisor James Quigley said the circle, which measures about 75 feet in circumference, has been incorrectly considered to be anywhere from several hundred years old to prehistoric.
“Lou DiDonna built that because he was an eccentric,” Quigley said. “He was also the town attorney.
“I’ve been told it’s anywhere from 50 to 60 years old, and he (DiDonna) built it to impress his girlfriend.”
Quigley said the circle “looks like Stonehenge” and that concern from a resident prompted him to contact former town officials.
“I had three statements from two attorneys and a former town supervisor, who all had personal knowledge, that the structure was constructed ... by the property owner as a park to take his girlfriend to,” the supervisor said.
Quigley said an archeologist from SUNY New Paltz will conduct the review, but he was not certain of the cost.
“I can’t believe it’s more than two hours’ worth of his time to come up ... take a look at it and write a report,” he said.
