Kingston duo highlights locals at sectional meet

Kingston's Robert Becker and Jack McDonough won individual titles at the Section 9, Class A championsh­ips.

Kingston High’s Robert Becker and Jack McDonough, along with Wallkill’s Ryan Diener and Roosevelt’s Sarah Trainor, won individual titles at the Section 9, Class A indoor track & field championsh­ips.

Becker captured the 1,000-meter run in a school-record 2:33.06, breaking the mark of 2:33.33 set by Rastafi Morgan. McDonough, meanwhile, defended his shot put title with a throw of 45 feet, 6 1/2 inches. In the weight throw, McDonough was fourth (45-1 1/4).

Ben Osborn was fifth in the long jump (19-7 1/2), while the 3200 (8:16.59) and 800 (1.39.46) relay teams placed second and sixth, respective­ly, for the Tigers, who set 14 personal records and season bests in the meet.

Monica Reyes placed third for the Kingston girls in the shot put (35-3 1/2), while Stephanie Green was fifth in both the shot put (31-8 3/4) and weight throw (41-9) for the Tigers, whose 3200 (10:24) and 1600 (4:28.61) placed fifth and sixth, respective­ly.

Diener won the weight throw (54-8 1/4) for the Panthers, while Anthony Nelson placed third in the high jump (6-0). Wallkill’s relay team, meanwhile, placed fifth in the 1600 (3:39.85).

Trainor won the 1000 in 2:49.51, while Tayah Nathan was third in the 600 (1:42.95) for the Roosevelt girls.

The Presidents team of Paul Sandford, Wyatt Matyas, Charles Canero and Liam Farrell won the 3200

in 8:16.21, while Farrell placed third in the 3200 in 9:50.43. Ramasoj Williams was fourth in the 55 (6.95), while Tito Maresca was fourth in the 3200 (10:01.21).

Roosevelt’s Jermalley James was fifth in the 600 (1:26.33) and sixth in the high jump (5-8), while teammate Ryan Robertson was fifth in the weight throw (42-7 1/4) and sixth in

the shot put (39-5 1/2).

Monroe-Woodbury captured both the boys and girls titles. Cornwall and Middletown rounded the top-3 in the 14-team boys standings, with Kingston fourth, Roosevelt fifth and Wallkill 12th.

The Green Dragons and Middies rounded the top-3 in the 12-team girls standings as well, with Roosevelt ninth and Kingston 10th.
