Marjorie Joan (McMahon) Richmond, 83, of Snyder’s Lake
Marjorie Joan (McMahon) Richmond, 83, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn in Albany with her loving family by her side.
Born Aug. 9, 1934, in Hoosick Falls, Marjorie was the daughter of the late John L. and Elizabeth (Burke) McMahon and for over 55 years the wife of the late Robert J. Richmond, who predeceased her Aug. 2, 2011.
Marjorie was a graduate of the former Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls, Class of 1951, and earned a Registered Nursing Degree in 1954 at the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Albany.
On May 12, 1956, she and Robert were married at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Hoosick Falls.
In addition to raising her family, Marjorie worked as a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital and Albany Medical Center and after relocating to Kingston, at Benedictine and Kingston hospitals. In 1961, her husband established Park Opticians in Kingston, where she worked with him as the office manager for several years and later was employed at the IBM Vision Department, also in Kingston.
In retirement, Marjorie and Bob relocated to Snyder’s Lake, where she felt she was “on vacation every day.” She was a communicant and active member of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Wynantskill, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister to the sick and elderly. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, square dancing, playing Bingo, dominoes, cards and her volunteer work at Van Rensselaer Manor. She loved to shop, go on trips with her seniors (Troy and Rensselaer) group and being around her family and friends at Snyder’s Lake. She would often say, “You are welcome to visit anytime, but call first, I may not be home.”
Marjorie will be remembered most for her compassion for others, her genuine love and kindness shown to her children, grandchildren, family, friends and her community. In addition, Marjorie was known for her incredible baking.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Elizabeth Byrne of Pine Bush, Michael and Kelly Richmond of Kingston, Colleen and Fred Kurtz of Greenwich, Mary Richmond and Michael Noble of Poestenkill, and Molly and Richard Terpening of Kingston; her siblings, Jean and Robert Burns, Patricia and Robert Hinkley, John (the late Trish) McMahon, Catherine McMahon and Robert McMahon; her 13 adored grandchildren, Marjorie Byrne, Ryan and Jenna Richmond, Kyle and Amanda Richmond, Troy Richmond, Brandon Cheng, Logan Kurtz, Noah Kurtz, Maximilian Kracker, Julia Kracker, Grace Terpening, Ayla Terpening, Cole Terpening and Tessa Terpening; two beautiful great-grandsons, Jayden Richmond and Weston Richmond; her beloved inlaws, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Bob, she was predeceased by a brother, the late Edward McMahon.
A Mass of Christian Resurrection for Marjorie will be celebrated on Feb. 24, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. by Rev. Anthony Ligato at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 43 Brookside Ave. in Wynantskill. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church from 10 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. prior to the celebration of Mass.
Inurnment will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery on May 18, 2018 at 1:30 p.m.
