CYCLING YMCA Adult “Smart Cycling” Bike Safety Class: 5:30-8:30 p.m. for three Wednesdays March 14-28 at the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County. Program, taught by Tom Polk, designed for those who have been riding for years as well as those thinking about getting on (or back on) a bike. Smart Cycling teaches students about choosing a bike, basic parts, essential equipment, as well as how to safely and comfortably ride in various traffic conditions, terrain and climates. Course includes 4 hours of classroom instruction (which can also be done online at www.bikeed. org, and 5 hours of on-bike instruction. Cost: $50. Bike and helmet required. Youth Bicycle Education Program: Eight sessions (next is April 7) for ages 10-15 Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon. First two sessions are at the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County. Each session includes instruction and a ride. All participants receive a T-shirt, water bottle, patch kit and bike multi-tool. Bikes and helmets are provided or bring your own. Cost: $50 for YMCA members, $75 for non-members. Scholarships are available —— no one is turned away. Ride leaders are Tom Polk, Meg Clark and Dave Panico. Sign up in the Y Membership Office. Learn To Ride Adult Bicycle Education Class: For those who never learned to ride a bike, the YMCA offers a 2-hour class geared to getting you riding or your money back. With their safe, easy, effective method, you’ll learn how to balance, start, stop and steer a bike, as well as adjust a helmet for proper fit. Bikes and helmets provided or participants may bring their own. Three separate class dates offered: April 10, 18 or 26. All are 5:307:30 p.m. in the YMCA parking lot. Cost: $20.
