Highland, Marlboro reach B semifinals
Highland High’s reigning Class B champion basketball team registered its 19th consecutive victory and its 20th overall Tuesday, rolling into the Section 9 semifinals with a 57-11 win over Rhinebeck.
A balanced effort from Bri Rozzi (15 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, two steals), Sam Garcia (12 points, six rebounds, six blocked shots, five assists), Candace McCutcheon (eight points, six rebounds, four steals), Mollee Stafford (seven rebounds) and Arianna Ranalli (three steals) powered the Huskies’ attack.
Their defense held Rhinebeck without a basket for the first three quarters.

At Goshen, No. 6 Marlboro upended third-seeded John S. Burke in the Class B quarterfinals to earn a spot in the semis today at Fallsburg.
Erin Lofaro guided the Dukes with a huge doubledouble, scoring 23 points and grabbing 17 rebounds.
Talaya Lewis and Jetta Stephens had 13 and 11 points, respectively, for Marlboro.
Brenna Costello had 16 points and Caileigh Costello 13 for Burke. Spackenkill 69, Onteora 36
At Poughkeepsie, Issy Herrera scored a careerhigh 36 points, including 19 in the second quarter, to carry (12-8) Spackenkill in its quarterfinal win.
Maya-K Johnson had 18 points, five rebounds, four blocks and five steals and Maddie McCall and Olivia Zykoff each grabbed seven rebounds in the triumph.
“Issy was outstanding as she shot well from the outside but, more importantly, was able to drive to the basket effectively,” Spartans coach Don Neise said. “We ran our offense through Maya-K early and that opened it for Issy to take over offensively.”

At Fallsburg, the Comets were carried into the semis from outstandings performances from Diamond Weeks (26 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, four steals) and Amanda Zeno (25 points, 10 assists, five rebounds) and Zariah Williams (22 points). Seward 68, Pine Plains 41
At Florida, the Spartans hit 10 3-point field goals in their Class C semifinal win. Josely Medina scored 19 points, Alexa Roach had 17 and Erika Straub 13 to lead Seward,
The Spartans play Millbrook for the championship 5 p.m. Friday at Mount Saint Mary College.
Lily Brenner had 14 points, Haley Strang added 11 and Emily Torre scored 10 for Pine Plains.
