The president of the Kingstonbased digital marketing firm Dragon Search has launched a bid for the Democratic nomination in the state’s 103rd Assembly District.

Abe Uchitelle will try to wrest the party’s nomination from incumbent Kevin Cahill, who has served in the Assembly for more than 20 years.

“I am running for Assembly to challenge the status quo of politics as usual in Albany” Uchitelle said in a Thursday statement announcing his candidacy. “Our district deserves a leader who will work with all levels of government to solve problems for families back at home.”

Uchitelle serves as board member for the Kingston Land Trust and Family of Woodstock, and he formerly served on multiple town and village committees in New Paltz, according to his campaign announcement.

Uchitelle said he will hold a campaign kickoff event at 2 p.m. March 6 at the senate Garage on North Front Street in Uptown Kingston.

Cahill first was elected to the Assembly in 1992, lost his seat in 1994, was returned to office in 1998 and has been re-elected every two years since.

The 103rd Assembly District includes the Dutchess County towns of Red Hook and Rhinebeck; and, in Ulster County, the city of Kingston and towns of Shandaken, Woodstock, Kingston, Ulster, Olive, Hurley, Rochester, Marbletown, Rosendale, Esopus, New Paltz, Gardiner and Plattekill.
