George V. Carpouzis, 85, of Kingston, passed unexpected­ly Monday, March 12, 2018, at Westcheste­r Medical Center, Mount Pleasant, N.Y.

He was born Dec. 14, 1932, in Kingston, the son of the late Vlassios and Christina Stamate Carpouzis.

He was a graduate of Kingston High School and had attended Hartwick College and Iona. George served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

For many years, he worked for local Kingston restaurant­s. He loved boxing and following the “fight game,” and was a good basketball player. Well-known in the community, he was always willing to lend a hand to the needy whenever and wherever he could. George also had a fond love of pets, especially his dogs.

He is survived by his brother, Arthur Carpouzis; a sister, Essie Uhl and her husband Albert; nephews, Eric Carpouzis and Christophe­r Uhl; and a Goddaughte­r, Jean Brown.

Entrusted to the care of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service. Friends may visit on Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon; the service will be at noon. Burial will be in New Paltz Rural Cemetery, with military honors.
