Senate House celebrates maple season on April 7
WHAT: Event, “Sugaring Off: 18th Century Style” WHEN: April 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. WHERE: Senate House State Historic Site, 296 Fair St., Kingston DETAILS: Join the Senate House State Historic Site staff to celebrate the maple season. Activities include boiling maple sap to syrup, making jack wax candy, baking molasses cornbread and waffles over an open fire, hewing a log into a trough and making wooden buckets and spiles which were used to collect the sap. The First Ulster Militia will re-enact a raid on the sugar bush. Mark Rust will perform traditional 18th century music on a variety of musical instruments, including banjo, violin, guitar and spoons. Free screening of ‘Newtown’ at UPAC
WHAT: Free screening of the documentary “Newtown” WHEN: March 16 at 7 p.m. WHERE: Ulster Performing Arts Center, 601 Broadway, Kingston DETAILS: Stockade Works, in association with the Bardavon, will host a free screening of the documentary “Newtown.” Through intimate testimonials and exclusive access, the 2017 film focuses on the community of Newtown, Conn., in the aftermath of the largest mass shooting of schoolchildren in American history. The event will also offer an opportunity for attendees to further the conversation about gun safety reform during a post-screening panel discussion and a question-and-answer session with the film’s director Kim Snyder and expert panelists (to be announced).
