Donald J. Golnek, 70, formerly of Saugerties, died Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Hospice Inn at Saint Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Born Sept. 30, 1947, in Kingston, he was a son of the late Charles J. and Lydia (Matheus) Golnek.

A respirator­y therapist, Don worked in various area hospitals, including Kingston and Benedictin­e hospitals in Kingston and St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeeps­ie. Involved in the Boy Scouts, he served as Scoutmaste­r for Troop 9 and Assistant Scoutmaste­r for Troop 3. He volunteere­d serving mission meals at the First Baptist Church. Although he never had children, Don loved and treated his nieces and nephews as though they were his own. A master storytelle­r, he would captivate his nieces and nephews and anyone listening with his

tales.

Surviving are his sisters, Dorothy Golnek and Joan Hall, both of Saugerties; and his brothers, David Golnek of Kingston and Stephen Golnek of Saugerties. Several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews also survive.

His sister, Mary Neit, and brothers, Charles J. Golnek and Joseph Golnek, all died previously.

Cremation and memorial arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home

Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh.com). Memorial visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Inurnment will follow in the Wiltwyck Community Mausoleum Niches.
