Shirley M. Dederick, 80, of Appletree Drive, died Thursday, March 15, 2018, at the Pines in Catskill. Born Aug. 19, 1937, in Saugerties, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Helen Freligh Whitaker. A lifetime area resident, she was a graduate of Saugerties High School and was employed for many years at Metropolit­an Life Insurance Co. in Kingston.

Shirley enjoyed her close relationsh­ips she made over the years with her coworkers at Metropolit­an and looked forward to their monthly luncheons after their retirement­s. An avid Saugerties sports fan, she was often seen at Saugerties Dutchmen Games, sitting in the “Maple Nut Section” of Cantine Field.

Survivors include her brother, John “Jack” Whitaker and his wife Jane of Saugerties; a nephew, John (Rose) Whitaker of Saugerties; and two nieces, Kristina Whitaker of Saugerties

and Melinda (Chad) Glover of Marlboro. Eight greatniece­s and nephews also survive.

Her funeral procession will form at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at SeamonWils­ey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette streets. Thence to St. Mary of the Snow Church, where at 10 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Interment will be held in the spring at Mountain View Cemetery.

Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home.
