Senior Breakfast Seminar takes place March 21

TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. » The Wellness and Healthy Life Style Senior Breakfast Seminar, formerly knows as Benecare Club, will meet Wednesday, March 21, in the food court at the Hudson Valley Mall, 1300 Ulster Ave.

Breakfast will be at 8:30 a.m., followed by the speaker at 9 a.m. The speaker will be David Scarpino, president and chief executive officer of HealthAlli­ance of the Hudson Valley. He will talk about recent news from New York state regarding the new hospital facility at the Benedictin­e campus.

AARP driver safety class on March 24

LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. » An AARP driver safety class will take place Saturday, March 24, at the senior center, 1 Town Hall Drive.

Sign in is at 8:30 a.m., with the class starting at 9 a.m. The class is scheduled to run six hours, but could go longer.

Successful completion of the course qualifies attendees for insurance discounts and the reduction of points on their driver’s licenses. The cost is $25 each, $20 for AARP members. There are no membership or age requiremen­ts. Everyone is welcome to attend.

‘County Government on the Road’ event in Red Hook

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. » Following the recent opening of the Senior Friendship Center at the Red Hook Community Center at 59 Fisk St., the Dutchess County Office for the Aging is working on a plan to make its staff, along with staff from other county department­s, available for seniors in rural areas of Dutchess County to answer questions in person.

The first “County Government on the Road” event of 2018 will take place at the Senior Friendship Center in Red Hook on Monday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Office for the Aging and several other department­s will have staff available to answer questions about issues related to aging, county government and other services that may be available to you, a family member or somebody you care for. It’s an opportunit­y for seniors to advocate for themselves, with Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro and other local officials planning to attend.

Senior groups list meeting schedules

LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. » The Town of Ulster Senior Club will meet Thursday, March 22, at the Town of Ulster Senior Center, 1 Town Hall Drive.

Refreshmen­ts will be served at 12:30 p.m., with the meeting starting at 1 p.m.

A guest speaker is planned. In additions, preparatio­ns will be made for the club’s 50th anniversar­y celebratio­n.

Those who have not yet paid their dues for 2018 are asked to do so.

The club’s meetings are a time for friendship, socializat­ion and the sharing of ideas. New members are always welcome. After the meetings, those who wish may stay to play bingo.

WOODSTOCK, N.Y. » The Woodstock Senior Citizens Club will meet Wednesday, March 21, at noon at the Community Center on Rock City Road.

Woodstock Supervisor William McKenna will be the guest speaker.

PORT EWEN, N.Y. » The Town of Esopus Seniors will meet Monday, March 19, at noon, at the Esopus Town Hall, 284 Broadway.

There will be KFC lunch, followed by the regular meeting. The cost will be $5 per person. Coffee,

tea and water will be available. Those attending can bring their own soft drinks, if they prefer.

KINGSTON, N.Y. » The Hudson Valley Senior Residence Board of Volunteers will meet Thursday, March 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the residence at 80 Washington Ave.

The board will review plans for a St. Patrick’s Day party, with Bob Cohen entertaini­ng. A Night on Broadway with entertainm­ent

and refreshmen­ts and the annual cookie Easter Basket delivery to each resident will also be reviewed.

The biennial 20 Week Club will begin selling tickets for drawings beginning the week of July 22 and ending Dec. 15. Tickets will be distribute­d at the meeting.

Volunteers meet monthly to knit or crochet lap robes to be donated to area nursing homes or they are given as a gift included with the welcome basket each new resident receives.
