Marguerite ‘Peg’ Wickman, 61, of Kingston

Marguerite “Peg” Wickman, age 61, returned to her Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2018.

Born on Nov. 2, 1956, to the late Daniel and Marguerite Wickman of Woodside, N.Y., she was the eldest of eight children.

She attended CUNY Queens College and went on to be a teacher’s aide in both home economics and art at the West Park Union Free School for twenty-five years. She was active in the human services community, often participat­ing in charitable projects and services. She was an avid craftswoma­n, known for making beautiful and elaborate crocheted quilts for friends and loved ones.

She was predecease­d by life partner Fred Ayers Johnson, deceased 2005; her son, David Matthews, deceased 1987; and is survived by her children, Elizabeth Wickman of Rhinebeck N.Y., Jamie Cole of Catskill, N.Y., Daniel Wickman of Highland, N.Y., and Michael Johnson of Hurley, N.Y. She is also survived by siblings Susan McCune, Alice Depalmo, Daniel Wickman, Harvey Wickman and Michael Wickman. Peg’s true happiness came in grandmothe­rhood to her most beloved grandchild­ren, Noah, Seth, Regina, Mary, Gary, Eryk, Daniel and Matthew.

She was an avid believer in random acts of kindness, a good joke and a hot cup of tea. She is remembered by friends as a generous and loving woman who brought joy and comfort to many.

Cremation arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston, N.Y. (www.jvleahyfh.com)

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at the First Baptist Church on Albany Avenue in Kingston, N.Y., at 4 p.m., followed immediatel­y by a potluck supper in the church hall. Friends and family welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to Peg’s favorite local human services group, Birthright of Kingston.
