Yankees’ Judge switches equipment brand
New York Yankees star Aaron Judge is switching his equipment supplier to Adidas from Under Armour.
Adidas said Tuesday it had agreed to a multiyear partnership with the AL Rookie of the Year, who set a rookie record with 52 home runs last season.
Judge came up to the major leagues with the Yankees in August 2016 and homered in his first plate appearance. He has been wearing Adidas equipment since the start of spring training last month.
League combating violence
The Greek government has lifted its suspension of the country’s soccer league after saying it received a commitment from clubs to reform rules aimed at combating violence.
League organizers say games will restart Saturday with additional midweek matches to be planned to compensate for the two-week suspension.
The government announced the decision Tuesday following talks with Greek clubs and a delegation from FIFA which visited Athens this month and had threatened to expel the country from international competition.
The suspension was ordered after PAOK chairman Ivan Savvidis confronted a referee on the field with a holstered gun strapped to his belt. PAOK and Savvidis are facing disciplinary action and court appearances because of the incident.
Ledecky turning pro
Katie Ledecky is turning pro. The five-time Olympic gold medalist announced on Twitter that she is giving up her final two years of eligibility at Stanford. She’ll keep training at the West Coast school while working toward her degree.
The 21-year-old Ledecky helped Stanford capture a pair of women’s national championships, the first back-to-back titles since winning five straight from 1992-96.
Ledecky wrote on Twitter that she’s excited to turn pro. She thanked the Cardinal program for “two amazing seasons” and saluted her family, friends and fans.
The decision to turn pro allows Ledecky to cash in on sponsorship and endorsement deals ahead of next year’s world championships in South Korea and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
