On the move
Douglas Clarke, of Bovina, N.Y. and New York City, has joined the staff of Coldwell Banker Timberland Properties to work out of the company’s Mar- garetville office.
A licensed real estate salesperson, Clarke is entering real estate sales after years in the hospitality industry and more than a decade as an intensive care nurse.
Originally from Philadelphia, he spent his summers growing up in rural Ireland, an experience he says helped draw him to the region.
He will make himself available to meet customers in New York City to discuss their Upstate real estate needs and interests. Molecular ecologist Alicia Slater, currently of DeLand, Fla., has been named the new dean of the School of Science at Marist College.
Slater will relocate and will assume her role on July 1.
She comes to Marist from Stetson University, where she has been professor and chairwoman of biology as well as director of curriculum and assessment. She also led the Health Sciences Department and held the endowed Hollis Chair of Health and Wellness, which included responsibility for overseeing retention efforts of students in STEM majors.
She also served as a member of the Provost’s Cabinet and oversaw general education and program-level assessment for Stetson’s College of Arts & Sciences, College of Law, School of Business, and School of Music.
Slater’s research interests include the scholarship of teaching and learning, particularly learner-centered pedagogies. As a scientist, she has published in peerreviewed journals on geographic distribution of and genetic variation in freshwater invertebrates. In addition to research grants from state agencies, she has received several grants from the National Science Foundation, including an International Postdoctoral Research Fellowship to study stream insect population genetics in Australia.
She holds a bachelor of science degree in biology from Georgia Institute of Technology and a master of science degree and doctorate in biology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Ann Bruno, of Ghent, has been named registrar in the Office of Records and Registration at Columbia-Greene Community College.
In her 30- year career, she has worked at Fulton Montgomery Community College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in mass media/communications from SUNY Plattsburgh, and a master’s degree in communications from Marist College.
She has served on state and national boards for enrollment management in higher education and has presented at state and national conferences.
