BUCKSPORT, MAINE » Klara Sitnechenk­o Hoffmann, 94, passed away on March 20, 2018, at the Woodlands Memory Care Facility in Brewer, Maine.

She was born in Belgorod, Russia, on Nov. 7, 1923; the daughter of Paul Sitnechenk­o and Maria Golovina. Klara married Hans Hoffmann on July 30, 1945 in Ulm, Germany. They met in Germany at a forced labor camp for Russians during World War II. Klara and Hans immigrated to the United States in 1952. They were extremely proud to become United States citizens. There is a plaque in their honor at Ellis Island.

Klara was a devoted wife, mother, grandmothe­r, and greatgrand­mother. She enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, piano, music, and cooking. She often hosted gatherings for her friends and family. Klara entertaine­d with delicious homemade cooking and her popular homemade flavored vodkas.

Klara is survived by her three children, Robert Hoffmann and wife Donna, Rita Hoffmann, and Rudy Hoffmann and wife Maureen. She is also survived by her five grandchild­ren, Frank Randy Hoffmann; Heidi Hoffmann and fiancé John Robinson; Christine Ramos and husband Timothy; Jennifer Aguilar and husband Edgar; and Timothy Hoffmann and fiancé Beth. In addition, she leaves behind seven great-grandchild­ren, Laura Hoffmann, Vanessa Hoffmann, Jacob Coghill, Ryan Robinson, Prestyn Varner, Hunter Hoffmann, and Audriana Aguilar.

Donations in Klara’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n. The family would like to thank the staff at Woodlands Memory Care in Brewer for their care and compassion toward Klara over the past several years.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
